“Poprah,” a name created to define a young woman who encompasses the vision, integrity, and passion of media icon, “Oprah Winfrey” and the creativity, drive and fortitude of Sean “Puffy” Combs. As an experienced television personality, actress, recording artist, writer and producer, she has had many successes that have spanned the entertainment industry both locally, and internationally.
Poprah is currently playing a major role in VH1’s 2nd season of “I Want To Work for Diddy” as Diddy’s protégée and secret agent. It’s quite the acting role, because she and Diddy are the only one’s who know she is acting. So it’s very unlike working on a set where no one is themselves and its expected. To stay in character 24/7 w/ cameras rolling at all times takes some serious role-playing.
Poprah’s new single inspired by the her role on the show, is scheduled for release on Dec. 1st, 2009 along with a music video featuring contestants from Vh1’s Diddy Season 2. She just performed the single live at Vh1 Launch party for the show in Beverly Hills to rave reviews. Most people are shocked that the big girl, with the big business skills, actually is a great musical talent as well, she raps, sings and really is an engaging performer.
Her new book is also in its finishing stages, Celebrity Encounters, The Un-Supahead, which chronicles her experiences trying to make it the music industry and highlights her motivation for choice to gain weight to subconsciously protect herself from sexual harassment in the industry is expected to quite controversial since many of the experiences were w/ some of the biggest names in the industry. Poprah says she must release this book to help enlighten many new comers to the industry about what they can expect and how to learn from her experiences and choices, both good and bad.
Poprah also owns her own TV/film/music production company and has produced several TV shows, one of which has aired on The CW and the other on UPN, and both beat out many competing shows for their time slot. She just wrapped on her own reality show, “Big Girls Need Luv Too”, which is 1st reality show which truly documents the real life experience of a confident plus size woman in the dating world. The show features 16 men of all walks of life and ethnicities vying for the love of Hollywood’s new “it” girl, a big girl.
She also hosted her own television show which aired on “The CW” called, “Dig It Or Dis It”, which was a television talent competition similar to “American Idol”. “Dig It Or Dis It” a talent competition on the “CW” which she also hosted and produced, did exceptionally well in the Nielsen ratings, many times beating out several big network shows in its timeslot, including, “The Carlson Daley Show”, “Extra” and “Fox News”, to name a few. Later she hosted her own talk show “Keep It Real”, on UPN, on which she interviewed some of the biggest names in the business including Usher, Pharrell, Ludacris, Tanya Hart, Queen Latifah, Justin Timberlake, and James Brown to name a few.
As a recording artist, on Warner Brothers, then BMG, she had top 20 hits throughout Europe and Asia, charting neck and neck with artists such as Michael Jackson, U2, Seal, and Warren G. Her single Booyah! was #15 in the charts in Italy, preceded by songstress Mariah Carey, and the same song was #8 in the charts in Germany when TLC was #7, and even topped Madonna in some markets.
Move over Monique & Queen Latifah, there’s a new “big” girl in town and she’s taking no prisoners.
